چکیده

SEE PAGES 489 AND 500 O verweight and obesity have increased in the United States and most of the Westernized world over recent decades, reaching a prevalence in the United States of well over 70% (1). Clearly, overweight and obese patients have increased cardiovascular (CV) risk factors, including hypertension, dyslipidemia, glucose abnormalities (impaired fasting glucose, metabolic syndrome, type II diabetes), and inflammation (1,2). Although a lack of physical activity is the primary cause of obesity (3–5), once obesity is manifest, physical activity and cardiorespiratory fitness progressively decline with weight gain. Therefore, it is not surprising that obesity is associated with a marked increased risk for most CV diseases. It is well known that obesity increases the risk for hypertension and coronary heart disease (CHD), which are leading causes of heart failure (HF) (2). Not surprisingly, the prevalence of HF is markedly increased in the setting of obesity, with progressive increases in HF prevalence correlating with increasing severity of obesity (2,6,7). Other related CV diseases (e.g., atrial fibrillation) are also more common in the setting of obesity (1,2).

Impact of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise training on sleep quality and cardiac structure and function in inactive obese girls

Background and Aim: Aerobic exercise plays an important role in prevention of obesity, improvement of sleep quality and cardiovascular function. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 8 weeks of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise training on sleep quality, and also cardiac structure and function in inactive obese girls. Materials and Methods: In this study, 20 inactive obe...

Impact of Exercise Endurance Training on PurB Gene Expression and Cardiac Function

Introduction: Endurance training has significant effects on the renewal of heart tissue, including myosin heavy chain (MHC) proteins. On the other side, Purine-rich element-binding protein &beta (purB) decreases the &alphaMHC gene expression. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of exercise endurance training on purB gene expression in the heart of Wistar rats. Methods: Fourteen r...

Pnm-19: Ovarian Function and Obesity--Interrelationship,Impact on Women's ReproductiveLifespan and Treatment Options

Background: Insulin resistance (IR) is a consequence of obesity, and in women it is often inextricably linked with ovarian function leading to clinical reproductive manifestations such as early menarche onset, subfertility and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Materials and Methods: Likewise, the dramatic fall in oestrogen production after menopause may contribute to weight gain and changes in ...

Techniques to carry weight loads and resist against bending in conical shells, cases in Kashan

Little has been written about the structural behavior of conical shells, while conical shells’ construction techniques due to the high rise and small span has always required special attention throughout the history of Islamic architecture. This paper aims to examine how conical shells bear weight loads and resist against bending through a qualitative analysis. After proving that ‘r...
